Columbia's population has a very young average age so I think it would be a perfect location for their new brand.

I have been told that the Whole Foods in Columbia is performing very well. I also heard that the Augusta store is not doing as well. Has anyone else heard anything? I want Columbia to support stores that offer us better food options.

The parking lot of whole foods is close to full almost every time I've ever been there.

I went to Charleston Cooks! today and asked the clerk why they were closing. She said the owner is retiring and wants to lessen his workload. He has a house in Charleston and a vacation house in the Upstate, so it would be easy to keep an eye on those stores. That, coupled with the high rent that Cross Hill commands made the decision for them. It was not a lack of support from the Columbia community, just a lifestyle choice by the owner.

I disagree that columbia doesn't have a strong preference for good, organic food. Any whole foods no matter where you go is not going to be 100% organic. There will be different levels. But as far as "natural" foods stores go, Columbia supports them well. We have rosewood market and 14 Carrot (metro area store) which both carry raw, locally produced grass fed milk from jersey cows, along with award-winning raw goat milk from award-winning split creek farm. Can you find this in your virginia stores? Also, certain foods are low in pesticides anyway, even if they aren't organic. Rosewood market will be expanding its fresh seafood selection with the new ownership. We have whole foods and earth fare. Both places sell sustainable seafoods and grass fed beef. You can find what you need here.

I visited Split Creek Farm during a January term class in college and it was fantastic. I am not a fan of goat cheese myself, but their products were great! South Carolina certainly has an abundance of local natural foods.

See? All the excitement about a trendy chain that other metros got before Columbia did and it turns out the chain has been overcharging customers and now admits it. How many other chains that think they're all that do the same? My spouse is a fantastic cook and loves to grocery-shop. Kroger and Publix are his favorites, and he can tell you all about why.

C'mon man that was in NYC! It might as well be in a different country. There are some bad apples in almost every aspect of life. Cops, teachers, preachers, politicians, I could keep going all day here. For the record......Columbia's store DID NOT do the same as the New York stores and I understand they have regular 3rd party calibrations. See?

Diatribe over!
