I certainly think that SC needs to work on its education system quite a bit, but I also feel that a contributing factor is the mindset of many South Carolinians. Many are content with receiving a mediocre salary/hourly wage and working a skilled labor job until they are retirement age. I agree with burr that its a cultural thing. Many South Carolinians are just content with the way things have been done and aren't necessarily interested in change.
Disclaimer: That is a broad statement and I certainly don't think that this applies to everyone in SC. This is in no way downing SC as I am a happy lifelong resident of 24 years and expect to be here many more.
