I just wanted to know is it a crime to sell a used vehicle without any gauges on the dash working? I mean nothing, the mileage, the speedometer, or anything? And what needs to be done if this happens?

Was it sold by a dealer or an individual?

Did you not notice this on the test drive? If you drove it off the lot adn then it broke, you might be SOL.

If you drove it and it was like that you might be SoL, too, because you "should have been aware of the issue" during the test drive.

It could be that the speedo cable is disconnected, and if the dealer did that then it *is* illegal.

Or it could be faulty and just need replaced. Speedo cables aren't hard to change out.

i'll make an assumption that laws down here are similar to where i'm from: that used cars on their addendum sheet will show not only their "visible" inspection reports but also the odometer information. It would list the mileage, and then check off if "accurate/original", "in excess of 100000", etc...

So maybe take a look at the paperwork that was with the car, and see if any mention was made about the speedo or mileage NOT being correct.

If the dealer covered themselves, may not be much one can do here. Fix the cable, and drive ( knowing the car would have to be sold with a mileage disclaimer ).

** BUT i'd highly suggest raising some cain at the dealer first. If they fix it right away, then all are happy. If not, get loud--esp if other customers are around.
just a thought...

Lol, I might have to be somewhat irrate. The dealer knew the gauges on the dash wasn't working but he didn't sell the vehicle with a mileage disclaimer.
