Anyone know what’s the deal with the 1200 Raymond Rowe building? I see a dumpster is now out front and the windows have been covered with plywood.

Man I would love to see it demolished and a mixed-use building go straight up. Haven’t heard anything.

We talked about it a few pages back, Teeples Construction is repurposing the building for mixed use. The original plan was to add one or two floors to it, but plans like that tend to be pretty flexible, so that may not happen.

Adding 3 or 4 floors would likely provide nice river views for condos, a restaurant, and/or an awesome meeting space!

Speaking of Old Town's retail, Cafe Motif just announced it is closing. It served really good coffee unlike anywhere else around here, but like all of Old Town's existing retail, foot traffic appears difficult to generate. Hopefully after another phase of residences, the retail can be better supported.

Morten's does a fantastic business. It is packed all of the time. Motif had very poor advertising. I went two times but didn't care for the coffee. They also had a poor selection of breakfast items. Other businesses in Old Town are thriving. They had a failed business model unfortunately.

It's very sad and unfortunate when someone expends a lot of money, blood, sweat, and tears to follow their dream and then their business fails. It's great that the other businesses are thriving! As I've said before, Old Town seems far out, but it's really not!

I'd hate to see it demolished. It's the former Davison's department store. I have a soft spot for former retail - especially department stores.

(However, I'll admit that I really like what they did to Kirven's, even though they made it completely unrecognizable.)

Regardless, I'm glad to see it getting some new life.

I'm totally with you on this! I still remember the wonderful Christmas decorations in the windows and also the downtown Montgomery Ward, Sears, HL Green, Orange Bowl, etc. And the movie theaters before they went dark. So sad!

Looks like a new car wash is going in near the Wal-Mart on Victory Drive.
