DaVita HeathCare Partners, a Denver-based company that operates kidney dialysis centers across the U.S., is opening its fourth office in Columbus, relocating its Phenix City location to a new site, and building another facility in nearby Warm Springs, Ga.

Nashville, Tenn.-based Oman-Gibson Associates (OGA), which specializes in constructing smaller medical offices, is the general contractor on the projects.

“Our niche is small, free-standing ambulatory-type medical, like cancer centers, dialysis centers, urgent care centers, office buildings,” said OGA project manager Charles Watkins.

DaVita currently operates dialysis centers at 1216 Stark Avenue, 6228 Bradley Park Drive and 1200 Brookstone Centre Parkway in Columbus, as well as at 1900 Opelika Road in Phenix City.

OGA has started construction on DaVita’s new south Columbus center at 2401 Shelby St., with work on the 6,138-square-foot facility expected to be completed in early November, said OGA project manager Sam Sarbacker. The price tag on that project is $1.8 million.

The Phenix City center is being relocated from Opelika Road to 4391 Riverchase Drive, near Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital, Watkins said. Construction on the 9,165-square-foot facility should be finished in January, with the cost of that one pegged at just over $2 million.

The Warm Springs center, meanwhile, is now under construction, with the 4130 White House Parkway facility likely to be completed by mid-December, Sarbacker said. The cost of that 6,379-square-foot structure is just under $1.7 million.

That's the way it appears, they've got the land to the right of their current location, no reason they couldn't build a small dealership there OR multi-brand one like Jay did with Volvo.

Will this be a 2nd Mitsubishi dealership? Thought there was one at Jay Auto Mall. Hope they build it next to the Kia dealership.

Good info. Glad to hear they are coming back. My guess is that they will locate next to Kia at CPC.

Here is an update on Old Town. The development is moving along nicely.

The 280-acre mixed-use project will include single-family homes, apartments, office and commercial space, complete with a town hall, chapel, walking trails and playgrounds.

The first phase will include 35 home sites, 45 urban-style apartments with restaurants and retail shops beneath them, 140 traditional garden-style apartments and 25,000 square feet of boutique space for retail and service-oriented businesses.

Woodruff recently took out several multifamily residential construction permits totaling about $16.4 million. Atlanta-based Oxford Properties is the contractor on the apartments, which will cost more than $20 million to build out.

Woodruff will begin selling lots for homes by late this summer or early fall, with home prices ranging from $200,000 to $2 million. Pre-leasing of apartments also starts this fall, with units available by next February.

There also will be room for major retail tenants fronting Veterans Parkway, with Woodruff setting aside 40 to 50 acres for big-box prospects along the heavily traveled corridor.

The entire development, which will have entrances on Veterans Parkway and Whitesville Road, will take place over a decade or so. As it unfolds, the area around it will continue to grow and the roadways will become more congested.

Already, according to a 2012 Georgia Department of Transportation traffic count, roughly 15,300 vehicles a day pass through the intersection of Veterans Parkway near American Way.

It has been planned for years to widen Veterans Parkway from Whitesville and Moon roads north into Harris County. The state is scheduled to solicit construction bids in February for a section from Old Moon Road to Turnberry Lane, a little more than a mile.

The current schedule calls for construction to begin next spring on a four-lane roadway with a raised median and turning lanes. The widening project should take about two years, which puts the finish date around spring 2016.

Overall, the first phase of the project will have no more than 341,000 square feet of commercial space and no more than 394 total single-family and apartment units.

Awesome news!!! This will be the nicest development in Columbus. I imagine some high-end retailers and restaurants will be coming to this project.
