Idk how bad the current tower is but they should sell it to some contractor to repurpose the building. There are alot of cities with no kind of skyline at all. Columbus does not need a tall skyline to be successful.

It’s on the chopping block, and I mean in terms on the skyline, if Savannah is building upwards, why can’t we? Literally SCAD has a building over there thats 15+ stories I believe. So yeah, bringing taller buildings downtown Columbus will definitely help with increasing density and putting less strain on city services. Like who wouldn’t want to be in a nice condo high-rise or working from a nice office with breath taking views of the Chattahoochee River and horizon during sunset.

The numbers are not adding up as well. That could be because our local city courts will be in this building too. Still, I think this project should have not exceeded 185 million.

Council voted to add an additional 8th floor. This building should be the same height as the new synovus tower and corporate center.

News got it wrong. 2026 is the completion date for the whole site. Construction starting next month with the new tower being ready by summer 2025. 2025-2026 is the demo of the current tower.

I figured because I was thinking that’s an awfully long time.

In Charleston, SC, no building downtown can be taller than the tallest church steeple. That limited skyline has given the city a world-renowned charm. There are areas outside of downtown with taller buildings or at least zoned for taller buildings.

You are absolutely correct that Columbus doesn't need a tall skyline to be successful.

The biggest slap in the face to the city is when in 10-15 years ,this building becomes too small in space because of the design. The same way the city service center became a small space in a short amount of time. Now most of those offices are located in the new city hall. The city service center is only used for elections and tags now.
