They will be called the River Dragons!
I like the name. Good to see it back finally. Hockey has been such a major part of Columbus for many years.

Seems like SPHL would have made more sense travel wise and for rivalries between nearby teams. It seems like the Federal League is mostly up north with the exception of Winston Salem and now Columbus.

After a little investigative work it turns out the FHL annual budgets are about half of the SPHL so it will be cheaper. The former Cottonmouths owner said the team never turned a profit, so with the FHL, it is easier to stay on the correct side of the budget. The upside to us over here in Macon is that our SPHL team has always been in the lower 2 in the league attendance wise and the contract with the city is up after the 19-20 season. If continuing in the SPHL is not an option then I suppose the FHL might be.

I am glad that Columbus has a new team. Hockey is a fun outing and it is nice to attend sporting events during winter when there isn't as much going on. I think more southerners would enjoy it if they give it a chance. I have taken several people to games and all have enjoyed it and returned.
