City workers moving into renovated police headquarters | The Columbus Dispatch

City workers are moving into consolidated offices in the newly renovated old police HQ building. The 1929 building has been given a $38 million renovation and expansion and was previously vacant since 1991. A nearby building at 109 N. Front where some of the old offices were is scheduled to be torn down later this year. However, a new office building will be going into the site and city council recently allocated funds for the new building's design. No renderings of this building are yet available, so we don't know how big or how tall it will be. Completion, however, could be as early as 2015.

Would love to see a new tower added to the skyline, but it's probably going to be no more than 5-10 stories.

Construction on Leafy Dale Apartments to Start this Summer

The Leafy Dale building is finally set to start renovation coming up in June. The building will be converted to 26 apartments. Next door, a 1970s-era building will be torn down and replaced with a new 4-story building that will have 16 additional apartments and 33 parking spots on 2 floors. The design of the new building is supposed to match the character of Victorian Village and it seems to be made to look much older than it will be.

Despite protests, CMHA board says 25 Poindexter buildings coming down | The Columbus Dispatch

There has been some contention about the fate of the Poindexter Village buildings, but it seems that at least 25 of the 35 site buildings will be torn down. They represent some of Columbus' oldest public housing, built in 1940 and some feel they are important to the local AA community. At the same time, they've been the site of rampant crime and poverty and are not all that nice. They're basically just plain brick boxes and look exactly like your basic public housing project.

And not development news but...

Blue Jackets 3, Stars 1: Still in the hunt | BlueJackets Xtra

After being in dead last at the end of February, the Blue Jackets have had a pretty amazing run since then with something like an 18-5-5 record. They have a chance to get into the playoffs for only the 2nd time in their history, but they need a few things to happen to get there. They need to win their very last game and have Detroit lose one. There are other possible ways for it to happen, but that's the most likely. Even if they don't make it, maybe this is a sign that they've worked out some of their very long-term problems. If so, it will be interesting to see what happens next fall.

That new 16-unit structure they are building in the left of the image is spectacular! That's how you build impressive architecture today. Looks like it came straight out of the 19th century.

Yeah, it looks great. The same company is responsible for the 3 floors on top of the Northstar building at 2nd and N. High. They do a great job with incorporating new builds into older neighborhoods.

I remember seeing that posted on CU. Pretty impressive. I haven't seen many updates over there- any idea what is going on with The Hubbard and the new hotel in the Short North?

The Hubbard is well into construction and the residential building hit floor 5 yesterday. The garage is just about done, but the connecting townhomes haven't advanced very far.

The Joseph Hotel hasn't done a whole lot yet. The back of the UC building was demolished and the art gallery there is now complete. Other than that, I believe that the main construction is set to begin in the next month or so.
