I'm trying to clean up my program files and came across Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer.

I've never used PowerPoint. I'm retired and would never have a reason to use it. But I wonder if deleting it would affect anything else. I rarely use Word but do use it occasionally.

So is it safe to delete PowerPoint Viewer? And, if so, are there any associated programs that I should also delete with it?

Thanks so much!

Do you have PowerPoint? If not, you'll need PP Viewer to view all those PowerPoint slideshows your other retired friends forward to your email. If you already have the full PowerPoint program, then you don't need the viewer.

Thanks so much for such a quick reply!

No, I dont have PowerPoint. Is PowerPoint Viewer necessary to view slide shows on news stories on the internet? I didnt think about that. If so, I'll keep it.

Thanks again!

I've never seen PowerPoint used on a web page. Personally I would keep it since it doesn't really take up any significant space and you never know when you'll need to open a PowerPoint file sent to you for whatever reason.

Powerpoint is used for presentations and is proprietary file, if one of these files are on the web it would be as file download. I would go with EscapeCalifornia suggestion and just keep it. You may never use it but if you do need it, you need it.

Thanks so much! My computer identifies it as being the third largest program, which is why I thought about deleting it. But I'll hold on to it, based on your recommendations.

You can delete if you don't remember using it recently. You can always download it again. It is a free Microsoft program and can be found easily by searching for Powerpoint viewer. Be sure to download it from Microsoft, not some other site.

Thanks! I know it's used for presentations but I'm retired and have no use for that. If it's used for viewing a slide show thru email, I havent ever used it. If, however, it's used in any way for viewing on the internet, I'd want to keep it.

If you do not have MS PowerPoint installed then I would suggest keeping it. The viewer allows those that do not have PowerPoint installed to easily view a PowerPoint file that theymay get in an email or find on the web.

Thanks. That's where I'm confused. Some people say PowerPoint Viewer isnt used to view slide shows on the web and others say it is. I goggled it before starting this thread and what I found on the internet only confused me more.

I went ahead and deleted it, knowing that I can install it again if necessary. My computer has become bloated with software over the years and I'm trying to delete any unnecessary programs (if I can be sure that doing so wont affect other programs).
