My laptop got broken but i had warranty so they said at best buy that i could get another one of equal value. But windows 8 is so bad and i am afraid they might give me that. Do i tell them to install windows 7 for me because i do not know how to do that?

You'll likely get Windows 8 if you get a new computer at Best Buy. Having Best Buy install Windows 7 is expensive. You might be able to find some older models with Win 7 in clearance; that may be your best bet.

Did your old computer come with an XP disk? That's a long shot, but it might have.

Another option: On the bottom of the laptop there should be a sticker with a key code for XP. Write that down, find an XP disk (friend, buy one?) and install XP on the new laptop if you don't like Win8.

If you have a local PC shop they might install Win7 for you if you supply the key code. It's likely they have the XP to install, or they might sell you an old disk cheap. If they will, buy it so you have it for future needs, if any.

Sorry, I was being dense there. The same holds true for Windows 7. I have no idea why I was talking about XP unless it was from the thread I was in before this one.

HAHA.

I was wondering why you were advising him to install XP. Hey if he wants, I have an old copy of Windows 98 or Windows ME he can have.

I've still got MS DOS 6.0 on floppy in the basement. If you want it you'd better hurry since we're cleaning out this winter and it's going away...

Even better. Nothing like installing an OS with lots of floppies.
