So I have a Sony Vaio laptop (Win 7) and am experiencing wireless connectivity issues. The computer shows to be connected but I have no connection. This only happens at two places that have free wifi that I connect to, one of them being work. Each time at work I will reboot the modem and then connect fine with no problem. Strangely enough my smart phone connects fine so I am wondering if it's the laptop. I have tried to update the wireless driver but it shows it's up-to-date. At both places when it happens the connection bars on the bottom of the computer show connected but there is a yellowish triangle or something. Any help would be much appreciated.

How did you try to update the driver? If you went to device manage and did it from there, it's not likely it would find an update. Go to Sony's support site and look up your model and see if they have a newer version available, or even an older version to test with.

I have done both. The device manager said there was no update. From Sony's site I updated my wireless component utility as well.

So you use both a modem and have a wireless connection...

Are you sure the yellow triangle isn't reporting wireless (or modem) connection problem when the other is active?

What does the popup say when you double-click the yellow triangle?

Something doesn't sound right here.....

I think he meant cable modem, to which a wireless router is connected, not a dialup modem.

Sounds like you're connected to the router, but not to the internet. Possibly some setting on the router isn't letting it connect. However, you say that your phone connects. Is your phone connecting through wifi, or is it connecting to the cellular network?

Right, I am connected through a wireless router. When I run my mouse across the connection bars (bottom right corner) it says the name of the connection and then "no internet access" I believe. I was connecting my phone through the wifi connection as well.

I found this site and decided to give it a go. So far my computer is connecting ok so not sure if this corrected the problem or not. I decided to uninstall it after it updated my registry.

Do you have a Windows 8~? I've noticed I've had this issue also and was told by the India support group that it is normal for this to happen. It is an on and off thing when it does happen.
