Has anyone used this? The Apple folks keep telling me it's not necessary, but I'm also of the belief that no computer is 100% clean either. Let me know your thoughts?

Did you notice this thread from last year in the Apple Support Forums? It was the second link in a Google search for Mac Keeper, and after reading it, I wouldn't touch that software with a 10-foot pole.

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3691

I had Clam antivirus installed on my iMac for a while. It found several Windows viruses in old email attachments, but not a single piece of Mac malware. The most noticeable effect was how much it slowed the Mac.

Don't need it. Download OnyX, available at the Apple webpage, and use that instead.

For malware and such, read this:

Mac Keeper is malware. Download ClamXav and get rid of it.

When I suspect my laptop is dirty I use:

Seriously, MacKeeper is a waste of time and a bigger waste of money...

Once every few months I'll run applejack (for filesystem checks, disk cleanup etc)

AppleJack Project Page

In three years have never contemplated installing an AV scanner, that's so Windows.....

Default If you are paranoid

You may want to look at Little Snitch.
It will not slow down your machine.
It is safe to use. (I have used it for 5+ years)

Little Snitch, at least when I used it the last time, changed permissions for my certain folders. I like using the Terminal, but what I do not like is to use it after some app messing with it.

MacKeeper saved me a lot of time giving me the ability to do certain things that in other case would at least require me to dig deep into the system. they have manuals and tutorials for every tool, and the 24/7 support is marvelous.

ClamxAv free antivirus? yeah, right. since when the free antivirus is better then the one with a team of paid developers behind it?))

Well, I would never install MacKeeper on any of my Macs. Don't need it. For any maintenance I use OnyX, and have never had a single problem with it. You can ask about MacKeeper at any of the Apple user forums, and most of the answers will be against using it.

I've used Mac computer only since they were invented and used Terminal only once. I've never had a virus. Never. And I do uploads to FTP sites and downloads of all sorts. Never had one. I see no need for any cleaning of my Macs.
