That is one of the confusing parts.

If I go to services and double-click on malwarebytes and then click on dependencies ... I get the "Win32: Can't find file" popup.

I'm just guessing but I think that file allows 32bit based apps run on 64bit systems like mine?

Have you tried this?

There are two tools available that may help.

MB-Check and MB-Clean are here
https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topi...support-tools/

I would start with the MB Cleanup Utility

Then do a clean install and you may want to re-download the latest version again just to be sure.

If you are still having problems I would look for other things that may be blocking it from running or installing correctly. Do you have another AV running?, if so try disabling your real-time protection.

Another thing you could try is to run MB in safe mode. That will ensure that nothing else is conflicting with it.

Success!

A tech (exile360) at the Malwarebytes forum had me run some tests and the following are the instructions and steps that I went through:

It looks like the WMI service is having issues and that's why Malwarebytes won't run since it's one of Malwarebytes' dependencies (it's also used for System Restore in Windows and other system components of the OS as well as other software). To fix it, please do the following:

Download Tweaking.com Windows Repair and install it.

Once installed or extracted, launch Repair_Windows.exe
Click on the Repairs - Main tab
Click on the Open Repairs button

Once it displays the list of repairs, click the checkbox next to All Repairs so that everything listed is UNCHECKED

Now, click the checkbox next to Repair WMI so that it is checked

Click on the Start Repairs button at the bottom
Once it completes, allow it to restart your system
Once that's done, see if Malwarebytes now works properly.
====================

I don't know exactly what or why the WMI wasn't working but before this fix I had gone into services and it showed WMI as being in automatic and running as it was supposed to be!?

No matter ....

After six months, malwarebytes is working again!
