Not sure about heat, but it's not a bad idea to use one of those coolers that sit under the unit.
OP the method for checking or removing startup items was in my post, but I think it was written poorly. You can quickly look at the list of start up items using Ccleaner.
Have you checked for startup files? Ccleaner/Tools/Startup
Have checked for junk in Add/Remove Programs? Ccleaner/Tools/Uninstall
Try running msconfig and setting the unit to run in diagnostic mode (General tab, radio button). If the BSOD doesn't show then the prob is likely one of those programs.
You can then remove the startup items one at a time (by removing the check mark from the box) and test. If it runs OK put the check mark back and test with the next one unmarked. Time consuming, but fairly accuarate.
