I saw I have, under programs, a Windows Installer and a Windows Live Installer. Should I delete them? I started to but it gave me a warning that if I do so, some programs might not work, so I am afraid to.
What are these programs anyway? Do I need them? Can I delete them without affecting my computer? Help!
I suggest you look at msconfig (start, run (or search) msconfig) and look for a line that says .msi in it.. uncheck that reboot and you maybe hit it.. if not look again..
You can remove the windows installer yes.. but long term you likely need it so.. not the best way to go..
Windows installer is starting because something is calling it, it is not starting by itself, do not uninstall it. You have an application that got messed up most likely, does it say what aplication it's configuring?
nope it doesnt say what application. i think it has something to do with my Blackberry Desktop Manager, though, because I had some issue regarding a "Roxio" thing, and it was linked to my BB Desktop Manager and I remember I had to come here on the forum to ask for help regarding this Windows Installer thing, and now I am having that same problem again. The only thing I have done different, is that I used my blackberry as a modem when i was sans laptop/internet at the ranch this past week. So I did add a function where I have an extra link to dial up to my mobile phone server, if i want to use my blackberry as a modem.

This is spooky. I just sort of replied to you under your old thread, basically to the effect that if you were still having roxio problems you should try inserting your carbonite cd when requested. If your symptoms are the same as before and you have a blackberry then try doing what i did - insert the blackberry user tools CD when the install complains about not finding the media...
Me again. I carried on looking, and if you are running Norton on your system you ought to take a look at the following forum page, which includes corroboration from a norton tech guy:
