We have a desktop computer about a year old, and when you put a disk in the drive it will not read it. I go into "my computer" to maually start it, and it is not found. Any ideas?
By disk to you mean floppy or CD? I'm going to assume CD. Does the drive show up in My Computer? Is the disk readable in a different computer? This happens with any disk?

I mean CD
I even put another cd rom drive from another computer and it is doing the same thing. It does not read any disk, but our laptops read them just fine.
So you replaced the CD drive itself? Does the drive show up in My Computer? Does it show up in Device Manager?
Yes replaced drive
Went into device manager and it says this
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
I assume I will need the original disk(which I dont have)
I pushed the "check for solution" button, and it says checking for solution, but never does anything.
