If your internet function is slower then what you were used to, make sure that only one mode of internet connection is *on*. Do not have wireless AND hard wiring *on* at the same time !!!

I assume you have a choice of either mode, wireless or hardwire CAT5.

Check which one is better and use that mode.

It is most likely slower. Most likely your old computer was a P4 and the new computer a dual core something. The single processor speed of the P4 is faster than the first half of the dual. What is the core speed of each processor of the new computer compared to that of the P4? You're just not using anything thats making the second half kick in. Think of it as a highway. They added more lanes. It didnt increase the speed, it decreased the congestion. So thus the only thing that it appears as going faster is the boot up.

If its a internet issue rather than a computer issue, replace the router.

You mean like DOS 6.22 Multiprocessor (either dual core or hyperthreading) has been supported for a long time by Windows, and Linux

Replace the router the router isn't prejudice against new computers and slows just them down.

Ok then, lets make it a cache issue. Download CCleaner and run it. Lets see if this resolves the issue. CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Until we hear back from bjh, you guys are simply arguing over unsupported guesses. The symptoms lead my thinking in two different directions, depending on whether the connection is wired or wireless.

Download firewall Online Armor and antivirus MS Security Essentials, both of which don't use a lot of resources.

Uninstall the Google Toolbar and that will delete the GoogleToobarNotifier process that's always interacting with the web. All it does is try to prevent you from changing your default search engine.
