My husband and I are moving to Ridgefield, CT and are looking for a part time preschool for our 2.5 year old who will not be 3 until January. Does anyone have a recommendation?

My twins went to Creative Children's Korner ("CCK") on the South Salem border (not the same as Children's Corner the day care). They (and I) loved it there. Highly recommend. It was 3 days per week, 2.5 hours or something. They also do a summer camp for a few weeks in the summer and the teachers are great...very experienced, has been around for oh about 40 yrs.

Just be sure to check their rules about age.
As MOST Preschools I have seen have a rule where you child needs to be 3 years old by December....So your child would not be able to go until they are 3 and 1/2 years old.

Generally, preschools here have 3 year old programs and 4 year old programs. And generally, the child has to be 3 and completely potty trained before the start of school.

However, Montessori schools usually have 2 year old programs.

Ct.'s state law requires that students entering kindergarten turn 5 by January 1, so many preschools also use that cut-off date for their 3 and 4 year old programs.

that was my experience too...my twins started the 3 program when they were 2, and turning 3 in early October. As long as they are 3 by January 1, they can typically go.

My children went to a few preschools in Ridgefield. They hated Children's Corner - glorified babysitting and they were bored rigid. The older child went to Ridgefield Academy for a while but really didn't find it any better.
I definitely got lucky with My Nursery school. It is a smaller setting, really involved teachers who've been there a long time, lots of social things as well as learning and very nuturing. My sons loved it. Cannot recommend highly enough. They have a website: www.mynurseryschool.com
Good luck with whatever you decide!

I have heard good things about Landmark of Ridgefield Academy and Ridgefield Parks and Rec's preschool. I'm not sure about Wilton's YMCA, but New Canaan's YMCA preschool is fantastic, if it is not too far away.

The Day School in Wilton has an excellent reputation. The Wilton Family Y has a good reputation for its other programming, but I must say that most people I know who use it for preschool are new to town and got closed out of the other options in town. They didn't have anything negative to say about it though, but it does get a lot of traffic through the building for the pool and other programs.
