Hello everyone

I am at the crossroads! I can't decide whether to accept a position at the Hartford Hospital or not.. I am in NJ currently and have no job So it is rather urgent.. and probably will accept if I can just get my confidence up about moving there I am so scared! (never been to CT!)

I do not drive (yet) so I am researching best places to potentially live within walking distance from the hospital.. thus need your help!

Thanks so much!!

Don't be scared. Hartford is a pretty nice small city. Some of the areas immediately around Hartford Hospital are not the best. You might be better looking for a place to live along one of the bus lines that serve the hospital. The buses are run by CT Transit. I would suggest looking for places to live in the South End (genarally as far south as possible the better) or Wethersfield. Check craigslist.com. Maybe the hospital can offer some assistance. Jay

There are not a lot of large scale apartment complexes in the area unfortunately. Mostly small apartment complexes and two family homes. I am not sure how much you can spend but the Villages at Wethersfield are very nice. Also there are a number of garden apartments along Jordan Lane that look decent. Off hand I do not know their names. An advertisement for an apartment will usually tell you if it is near the bus line. Jay

Moving from Jersey to Hartford shouldn't be a nightmare at all. I bet you can survive anywhere in Hartford. Take a weekend trip and check it out!

I would not suggest living in the area around HH - too dicey. Hartford has its share of decent areas, but this is not one of them. I agree with Jay that it's best to look either in the southernmost part of Hartford's South End, or Wethersfield.
There's a bus line that can take you to the hospital either from either of these two locations. Here's the map and the schedule:

http://www.cttransit.com/Uploads_RTMaps/h_47_map(4).pdf

http://www.cttransit.com/Uploads_Sch...dysched(3).pdf

There's actually quite a few apartment buildings in both areas, check out apartments.com to get an idea of what's out there and within your budget.
Good luck!

To add to what MikeinCt says is the Campfield Line of CT Transit which goes by the hospital as well. Jay
