So does everyone have snow tires? I recall hearing people use snow tires or chains on slick streets. (that was 30 years ago) It's supposed to be 80 here tomorrow so snow and ice sounds very scary to me.
I'm worried about the grand-dogs feet freezing too!

I have a compact car and drive in the snow and ice all the time. Just gotta have a handle on it and be able to analyze the road surface and drive accordingly. No big deal.

Given the conditions of this winter, I would suggest, at the very least, purchasing a four-wheel drive vehicle if you are planning to commute that much. Moreover, as others have stated, drive slowly, leave early, use your lights and hazards, and avoid steep inclines.

I'm not sure what you are majoring in but, if I were going to grad school, I would want to be as close to campus as possible to have easier access to campus (library--especially the library--profs, etc.) It all depends on how much you really "need" to be on campus.

I assume that you were referring to your dogs' feet? It all depends on what kind of a dog you have.

However, commuting is not out-of-the-question. And congratulations on being accepted to UConn (:

This winter has been funny. January was very intense with all the snow and extreme temperatures. But February has been pretty normal (actually we had a 61-degree day!) with lots of thawing and sunshine. The complete opposite of Jan. And no snow accumulation this month either. What an odd winter!
