CT is just much nicer IMO. The towns are nicer. Roads are better (aside from traffic, which is a mess in CT). I think CT takes more pride in its cities and suburbs than RI, probably because there is a lot more money here.

Overall CT is a much better state to call home for various reasons.

Live in Connecticut to raise a family and work, go to RI for the Beaches during the summer...dont get me wrong theyre are some gorgeous small beach towns and mesquamicut, watch hill are gorgeous beaches but when it comes to normal towns RI has some very run down ones, Providence apart from Downtown and Providence place isnt to lovely its very run down. CT has better employment, more jobs and I find the people here to be more pleasant.

They both suck, and both have good points. One's bigger than the other and not a lap dog to Boston.

Overall, RI wins on the beachy shoretown New England vibe, but CT flat kicks it's ass in corporate might and landscape.

Whoever said RI has hills like CT is mistaken. Highest point in the state is like 800 feet compared to 2300...unless *I'm* mistaken. lol

Retirement to either is not attractive to me.

You are correct. The highest point in RI is only 800 feet, which is about 1/3 of that of CT. The entire southern half of the state is as flat as Florida. Personally, I find beauty in both high terrain and flat terrain. There's just something calm and pleasant about flat terrain.

Also, RI is the headquarters of Ocean State Job Lot, headquartered in North Kingstown, RI. There are 102 locations throughout New England. That's probably the biggest corporate presence there is in RI lol!

I've had too many bad experiences at that place to ever go back. It's nasty, the store sells cheap junk, and the employees lack professionalism and class. Not a good representation.

I think a better comparison would be, Which is better Connecticut or Vermont. I'm choosing CT vs RI.

Keep in mind

Rhode Island has a humid climate, with cold winters and short summers.
Connecticut has a generally temperate climate, with cool winters and warm summers.

RI - Snowfall averages 37 inches a year.
CT - The average snowfall near coast is 25 inches, further north 60 inches, heaviest Northwest
.

I'm going to repeat what I said for those who did not comprehend. Northwestern RI has the same rolling hills as northeastern and east central CT.

I did not say RI hills could compare with the Litchfield hills. Take a ride sometime through western Golcester, Foster, Burrillville, RI.

A hill is relative. Anyone ever driven through Durham or even the side streets of Portland ? Played golf on Portland's hillsides? Elevation in Durham s 239', Portland 150' or so. The hills roll , even though they are not mountains, nor are they high Litchfield hills.

It's simply not the terrain of the coastal towns.

I agree... RI has rolling hills in the northwest.

Rhode Island is ONLY 1000 sq miles compared to Connecticuts 5500 sq miles.
Rhode Island highest point is 812... Connecticuts is 2380.
So factor in the fact that Rhode Island is small yet highest point is 812. I think the land goes from like 200 feet above sea level in the east to over 800 feet in the northwest which is a short distance.

Anyway --
I think the original poster of this thread was born and raised in Rhode Island. But whats more interesting is what they are saying in Rhode Island about this question.
