My in-laws live in Simsbury adjacent to Stratton Brook State Forest and they see bears all the time. The only time they are more careful is when it’s a mama bear with her cubs. Otherwise they just shoo them away. Jay

Cool! Good job. Were you making noise before you saw it? The key thing is never to surprise a Bear in their habitat. When I hiked in the middle of the night in the Adirondacks I made sure I was whistling or making some noise with the trekking pole.

A bear in West Hartford has become something of a celebrity since taking up residence in a big hole in a tree in someone's backyard.

The bear needs to be tranquilized and safely relocated by professionals and the proper authorities before it starts dragging bodies in the tree to gorge on. It's what's best and safer for both the bear and the residents of the home and neighborhood.

Bear thread bump alert

CT lawmakers considering legal bear hunts to cull the population. I disagree, just tranquilize and drop them off up in Maine or Canada.
No links, just Google it.
