Just to give you an idea... This bill just came last week. Its for a 2600 sq ft house. $154.00 and thats keeping it an ice box with the a/c practically constantly running. lol Electric Stove, Electric dryer, 1 Dehumidfier which I shut of in May. No desktop computers.

I pointed out when the electric heat was used in the winter which was for the basement only. It was a pretty cold winter but the bill didnt go above $220.

I'm just trying to point out how electric heat will affect your wallet even for a 900 sq ft condo. Dont get me wrong....I love electric heat. Clean, quiet, no maintenance but my pockets dont miss it.

Actually...let me see if I have one for when I had the 2 BR condo.

Edit: Found it... I almost dropped to floor. lol

This was for a 2BR 3 level condo. This month was when the basement heat was left on 60 degrees by accident. But you can see typically around $300 in winter months and keep in mind I enjoy the cold air so heat was rarely on except for 1 bedroom at night.

Was interested in this thread since I was looking into rentals in CT....so is there a difference, pricewise, between gas and electric heat? When some of mention paying over $300, that seems really expensive. Do you turn the heat off when youre not at home or do you have to keep it running all the time?

Here in FL, the electric bills can be "expensive" for the opposite reason...in the summer, the A/C is working overtime to keep the house cool so it is always higher during June-August. My last electric bill was $170. Then again, for us, it really depends on the condition of your A/C. It used to be really expensive until we replaced the A/C. It lowered the bill by more than 50%!

You can't equate AC costs vs heating costs. Its always possible to find cool places (basement/sleep outside on the lawn) in the summer or survive with a electric fan in the room. In the winter where can you find warm places? Banks ATM or if you are lucky, sleep beside steam pot holes in the city.

Heat doesnt run if Im not in the room. So those numbers I posted are the heat running practically a few hours a day in a couple rooms.

See I view it differently. In the winter you can always add a layer of clothing or a blanket to the bed to keep warm but in the summer, you can't do much to keep cooler. I really do not want to live down in my basement (avctually down south many homes do not even have basements) and a fan does little to keep you cool on hot days. Jay
