Oglethorpe,Ga. ) to get to the hospital, Walmart, Dr.'s office, etc... and ( 30 minutes to Chattanooga,Tn. our nearest big city ) to get to such places as the mall, childrens museum, aquarium, zoo, etc... Is there such a place in Connecticut ? If so what is the pricing on rental homes, purchasing a home, the schools, hospitals and the people and area in general ? I raise my children ( as well as my wife and myself ) to be respectable and thoughtful of others. My wife wants to move back to Connecticut (it is home to her and I have always been able to adapt). I just want a decent place to finish raising my children, where they can meet good, respectable and decent friends, get a good education so they can make something of themselves in the future and be better and have better than their old man. If anyone has an opinion or suggestion, I am all ears and interested and thank you for interest and help. GOD BLESS

And when I said we had a budget of 2000.00 that is our monthly income not our housing budget....LOL....thanks
Try east of the river, it's a little cheaper. How about Willington? It's a small and friendly country town, highway accessible and about 15 minutes away from everything in Vernon/Manchester.

I visited Bristol a few weeks ago and felt like I stepped back in time upon entering their downtown area. That area of town is a very strange, eerie place to me.

It is true East of the river is cheaper, but if their household income is only 2000 a month, then I can't imagine they would be able to spend more then 900 a month on rent, Which in the state of CT will only ever get you a 1 bedroom. OP, Since I see you have 4 children I would say you are better off where you are.

Not a good example of a downtown. It does feel dated and like it suffered from some really poor urban/commercial planning. Bristol just seems like a strange place in general to me. Can't really put my finger on it.

As a Bristol native, I have come up with a theory. There is a hill that divides Bristol basically east and west. The east half of Bristol is just normal, regular people, but the west half isn't. Go west of that hill and its all downhill from there.

If you want to live in a nice, average suburban area close to highways, shopping and most work, move to the Forestville section of Bristol. Forestville basically covers the area between route 229, route 6, Plainville and Southington. There are alot of friendly people in that area.

Bristol center does have an outdated feel. Most major commercial has moved to the rt 6 line of the city. I guess what you can afford on $2k depends on what your standards are and whether that was your budget for rent or monthly. The area around Maple street will have a lot of rentals. They are older 2-3 family homes and some of the residents are characters. Yet in comparison to some other places in CT for the same price point (New Britain) I'd much rather park my car anywhere in Bristol and walk anywhere too.

There are no buses to Terryville so if you need bus service it basically stops at Stop and shop on rt 6/Rt 229 in Bristol.

My niece is special needs and attends Bristol public schools...she's not autistic but the schools have always worked well with her mother.

If you ever are considering a place, especially when renting homes where children are involved, I say do a drive-by of the area and get comfortable with the things important to you.
