My 5 year old son starts Kindergarten in a few weeks and I just received a letter from Marvin Elementary School that they are on the official "in need of improvement" list. I'm very dissapointed since my wife and I have been skeptical of the Norwalk school's since we moved her 6 years ago. We always thought how bad could it be? Now we know or at least think we know.
Any thoughts or experiences would be helpful. Thanks

Sorry that no one has replied to this. I have been on vacation. Here is a link to some information on schools in Connecticut.

State Department of Education - CEDaR

You can find information on Marvin School there. From what I can see, it is a very diverse school with a high percentage of minority students and students who speak English as a second language. On the Connecticut Mastery Tests, students in the lower grades appear to perform under the state averages but the students in the older grades perform closer to and even exceed the state averages in a few cases. Only you and your wife can decide if Marvin is right for your child. I would give it a year and see how it goes. If it does not work out, I would then consider your options. Jay

I have done some work with the Norwalk school system and from what I saw this is correct. Marvin was definitely one of the "better" elementary schools I've been in, but overall neighboring towns are still better schools.
