Looks like UBS will remain in Stamford at least for a few more years. Malloy has made a deal with them to keep the jobs here. Jay

Is it? CT makes far less on UBS than you might think due to all the sweetheart deals they were cut to move there. Most of those 2000 folks would find jobs with either RBS, or in NYC pretty easily. Meanwhile, 20MM of tax money that SHOULD have gone to small businesses to help them hire more people, went to <bleep>ing UBS and AT&T. 2 companies that don't deserve a DIME.

I guess democrats are for welfare for everyone...except the middle class and small business. Huh, and here I thought all the evil Republicans were supposed to be in cahoots with the corporate fat cats.

What's next liberal run GE won't pay any income tax?

Message sent to the middle class and small business owners: "Pull harder. Big corporations and all the ghetto folks are counting on you."

Christie is giving away a Billion to private developers in tax breaks and other incentives to keep them here.... Which is way worse then 20 Million$.

Incentive From State: UBS Gets $20 Million Incentive From State To Keep 2,000 Jobs Here - Hartford Courant

The way I see this is they take $20 million and are allowed to lay off up to 1,500 workers in CT. The article says they currently have about 3,500 workers in the state and this only requires them to keep 2,000. This seems nuts.

It's a good thing for the folks at UBS anyway. I think people would be b*tching whether they stayed or left. Having that huge building empty in downtown Stamford doesn't do anyone good. Five more years is good enough for now.
I'm glad he struck that deal--would have been terrible timing for downtown Stamford.

Not a bad deal. At least 4 in 7 are spared (2,000/3,500), plus it buys the state 5 years to come up with a bigger deal to try to retain them for a far longer period of time. Like it or not, these deals are how the game is played today.
