Hello all,

My husband and I may be PCS'ing to Groton, CT and are curious on opinions of places to live. We are a mid-twenties couple, starting a family, and looking to settle down and buy a house. The type of place we are looking for is a tight-knit community, quaint, with a small-town feel but NOT rural. I would like to be able to walk to places with a toddler by myself and feel safe. We are from Safety Harbor, FL and if anyone has been there that is the type of town we would like. Here are our main things we need, in order from most important to least important to us:

1. Safety
2. Price under 300k for at the least a 2br/2ba home. Prefer a 3br. No condos.
2. 'walk-ability'
3. tight-knit community/small town
4. We love the old colonial style homes, and would love a neighborhood of historic homes. We don't mind doing some upgrading ourselves.
5. traffic on the way to groton and three rivers community college
5. good schools
6. No huge condo communities, giant malls, tall skyscrapers

For the right place, distance to Groton is NOT an issue.

I appreciate any and all suggestions.

PS. I know this sort of question has been asked before, and I apologize for the repeat. I'm just finding it a little difficult piecing the information together for exactly what I want, without actually making the trip to CT. DH has been there before, but he doesn't remember all the details I want to know. Thanks ahead of time!

Try the Niantic section of East Lyme.

Old Saybrook, Niantic, Essex, Madison (if you don't mind a smaller place and a long commute - the schools are excellent and it's a great town), Stonington/North Stonington. Waterford isn't bad.

Southeastern Connecticut has many communities that fit your description. I agree to start in East Lyme. You also might try Stonington, North Stonington or Ledyard. Jay
