Honestly, I think you're right. I mean, the building across the street was supposed to be a 15 story apartment complex before everything went south. The theatre would be a good anchor that could easily be wasted.

Bridgeport, like many abandoned manufacturing centers, is depressing, and I really doubt anything can be done to change that, short or long-term.

Default how does Bridgeport compare

now to 1980-82 when i went to the University? It had a terrible reputation when I was there, an old friend of mine was actually mugged sitting at the counter in Famous Pizza on Park Avenue. back in the days of the Gazebo parlor, Barnaby's, Barnes & Noble, The Clock Shop, Warnaco outlet, etc

reputation any better now, worse or same?

That building was either built or financed by the Czar of Russia to make munitions. The reason it looks so odd is that if one building blew up the others wouldn't blow too. So much for today's history lesson.

Main St. in downtown Bridgeport is pretty pathetic and depressing on the left side of the street. I forgot the exact sts, but I think from Lumber st to Golden Hill everything on the left side is completely shuttered.

Downtown North of Golden Hill is literally vacant for a few blocks. Looks like something you'd expect in Detroit.

Nice buildings gone to hell. Don't forget right there you have the Congress Street Bridge, literally seperates the East Side from the rest of Bridgeport. Now you can understand why the East Side is the poorest and get's the nod for being most dangerous, etc. The closing of that bridge literally cut of the East Side from the rest of the city.

Ain't that the truth. Fortunately, the Congress St bridge is looking like it will eventually be replaced. Unfortunately, residents coming from the East Side will arrive to a prime piece of property on the river that's the Juvenile Detention Centre. Great.

Replacing that bridge could go 2 ways. One way is that it opens up a major drug route to downtown.
