I don't really know New Haven, but I know Bridgeport reasonably well.

There are few places in Bridgeport that I would be afraid to drive through. Probably the worst are the PT Barnum projects and the Marina Village projects.

I wouldn't be afraid to drive through anywhere, carjackings are long passe, and honestly, the odds of a stray bullet going through your car are probably lower than your odds of dying in a car crash.

Now maybe walking, at least late at night, now that's a different story.....don't know enough about either to truly say, but east side of Bridgeport in general would be pretty rough to drive through at say 1am.....maybe some parts of Fair Haven in NH.

The East End of Bridsgeportis pretty bad but it is not a place I would avoid driving through during the day. Also the Hill and Newhallville neighborhoods in New Haven are bad but again I do not think I would avoid them during the day. At night it is a different story. Jay

I'm not afraid of driving through anything. Walking is another story. Most of east Bridgeport, The Hill, Newhallville and Fair Haven are places I would not walk at night.

I've said this before and I'll say it again:

I'd rather be in Bridgeport then in Ansonia, Derby, Waterbury or Hartford. Granted I live near there, but aside from, possibly Connecticut Avenue on the East End I could live in any part of Bridgeport. Bridgeport gets a bad rap.

Ansonia Crime Index = 188.1
Derby Crime Index = 255.8
Bridgeport Crime Index = 565.2
National Average = 319.2

We live in Derby. We love it and never see any crime.....but then again,we are in the Orange border in a beautiful, quiet, green area. Maybe thats why? I most certainly would not live in BP. Looked in Black Rock to appease our realtor but we did not want BP as our address. Maybe downtown Derby, where the numbered streets are,is where it is not so nice?

Don't listen to that poster. Derby has below average crime and nowhere near the murder rate of Bridgeport.
