I would like to move, and am trying to get info about states that interest me. I want to stay below 6 hours drive to my mom's home, and Fairfiled County would be within that. So, could some natives give me an overview of this area, please. I'd like to know more about things such as the weather, the people, crime, things to do/see, is this more of a rural/suburban/urban area of CT, etc. from people living in the area. I can do all kinds of research, but I think it's important to get a native CT's view as well. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Fairfield County is a varied area in many ways. I don't think you're going to get a summary as so many of the towns are very different from each other.

Your budget is important, because parts of Fairfield County are the most expensive in the country.

For budget and fun, your best bet is Stamford. It's strategically located in the heart of Fairfield County and a 45 minute ride to New York

If you have a lot of money to spend, Fairfield is a nice community. It's a very wealthy community. I don't how rural or country it is.. b/c we hardly have ever gone there...

There's nowhere in the state of CT that wud entail a 6 hour drive, OP! It's too small a state for that.. 6 hours and you'd be up in Maine, which is a nice state, actually, if you don't mind cold weather...
New Hampshire is nice too, and they got no sales tax there.. If you like woods/country, beautiful scenery, snow, you'd probably like NH or Maine.

Fairfield County is one of the most expensive areas of the country. It has some super wealthy towns like Greenwich, Darien and New Canaan and some not so wealthy towns like Bridgeport. It is not unusual to see VERY expensive cars parked next to very modest cars in parking lots.

Stamford has become the major employment center in the county (it is home to many major corporations and financial companies) though both Bridgeport and Danbury have a lot of jobs too. Plus many of the suburbs have jobs as well. Shelton, Fairfield, Stratford and, Norwalk all have a large business and commercial base.

A lot of where you should live will depend on what you do for a living and what you can afford for housing. Give us some information on what you do and we can help you further. Jay

Stamford is relatively cheaper than the best areas of CT - Darien and Greenwich

I remember there were listings in Stamford for 900-1100 bucks a month.

I happen to think the best area of CT is from Branford to Westbrook - which is far cheaper than Stamford.

It depends on where you work and how much money you have. If you work in NYC/White Plains/Stamford and can afford it, there's no better spot in CT than coastal lower Fairfield County between Greenwich and Westport (IMO).

Where are you moving from? What do you expect when you move to CT? Will you be traveling to New York or Mass alot? Both or do you plan to spend most of your time in CT? I have lived in Norwalk, Bridgeport (Fairfield County), Willimantic (Windham County), Hartford (The Capital) and Manchester (Hartford County).
