Salt Lake City got their streetcar because of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Not because they needed it. Jay

Default The connector is a mess!

I was so glad to retire this year, so I didn't have to drive down that connector cratered with potholes any more. I called DOT about the holes and was told "we're building a new road, you know". Holes never fixed.

Maybe it is 2002 Winter Olympics, but I dont think it is. But some of those streetcar seems like it was there way before 2002 because I when on some of the older ones and I'm sure Utah has a long history of streetcars. Even though 2002 is the past they are still exspanding out to the suburbs and it was weird how these trains would go through more into a rual farming areas where I saw sheeps and horse. I very much think it's just odd that we dont have it here and I'm sure we are much populated than the salt lake area and Utah

Really, I still think it's not fair! I actually spoke to an elderly lady and I told her I wish we had them here in Connecticut and I was thinking because it would be no used to have them here because of population and she told me they thought the same way in Salt Lake and many people still use them and still worked out. There time of the day I see the same people on the train and time of the day that it was crowded.

Ugh this just made me so mad.

You should look at the criteria they use for choosing a city for the olympics. There's a reason that New Haven hasn't been considered.

Applications are assessed based on government support, public opinion, general infrastructure, security, venues, accommodations and transportation. The committee considers a city's potential to organize a successful Olympic Games.

I actually chuckled when I read this. In the categories of public opinion, general infrastructure, transportation, and organization, New Haven gets a big fat F; to the point where it's literally amusing.

It's also too small of a city to be considered. SLC is major in comparison. Double the metro population and the center of a region.

True, but my point was that the city is lacking in basics, not that it should be chosen for an olympic venue. The fact that it's a smaller city should make it even easier to improve the above issues.
