New Haveners Worry Route 34 Removal Will Be Less Than Transformative | Mobilizing the Region

I think they missed the boat on this one. But hopefully the City can make up for this with the Streetcar network.

Yeah, I'm sure the residents will really miss that road and it's splendid day to day function as a drag strip/drug dealer strip mall.

You too often confuse CT with NJ, where these kinds of changes to major cities actually tend to work.

What city is NJ has been changed? Newark is still Newark. Camden is still Camden and Paterson is still Paterson. Not much different really. Jay

The areas of Newark that have had attention paid to them are much better than they were. Same goes for Jersey City. Whereas New Haven and Bridgeport (at least everywhere other than Josephs and Harbor Yard), remain lousy no matter how much money we throw at them. SoNo isn't far behind, nor are parts of Stamford. A lot of very weak leadership and ostrich-ing in this state. If we can't see it, it's not happening. Also a lot of whitewashing by the lifers who want to pretend there isn't a problem.

That's the difference. In NJ, people will tell you, yeah we have a problem that we need to do something about. In New Haven, they'll swear to you there isn't an issue, in between dodging bullets.

But I'm getting off topic.

Or, perhaps to function as a link to Route 34 into Orange and the Valley?

Anyone know how residents are going to easily get to Ella Grasso and 34 now from 95?

They won't. But if more people like Nexus have their way, you'll be able to transfer to 18 different branch lines and trolleys and "commute" to/around New Haven. cause you know...cars are evil.

LOL.

Really though? So now people from Orange/Woodbridge/Valley/Danbury are going to have to navigate the city streets of New Haven if they want to go to the beach or casino?

You've got to be kidding me...

Or they just take I-84 all the way there an avoid New Haven altogether.
