Hi everyone,

We have been looking for a home in Westchester for a while and are considering broadening our search to Stamford and possibly other towns. We are looking for a single family home with a budget up to $625,000. I have searched the forums but it is pretty confusing to understand which areas/schools are considered better than others in Stamford. Any thoughts would be helpful. Other nearby town recommendations would also be helpful but my husband will be commuting by train to Manhattan and we have family in Queens/LI, so we do not want to be too much further away than Stamford.

Thanks!

Stamford is considered a large city here in Connecticut and its schools do not perform as well as neighboring communities. Here is a link to informaiton on schools here that may be helpful. Jay

Stamford schools are fine. You've got a lot of renters and some Section 8/subsidized housing, etc. It's not homogenous like Darien and New Canaan. I think that's a good thing for kids. The large range of economic diversity also results in varied test scores. The important part is that it's a safe place to raise a family. For your budget, Stamford is smart.

Fairfield would be another good option, but adds ~15 minutes to the train ride.

More like 30 mins- express Stamford trains to NYC/GCT are roughly 42 mins vs 68-75 for Fairfield.
