Downtown West Hartford has a bunch of nice little bars (about 10-15 minute drive however). I recommend the Elbow Room.

Elbow Room isn't bad, but IMO what's even better is Damon's Tavern on the Hartford/WH city line on Prospect Avenue. It's where the old West Wings used to be (which fortunately is long gone ). Food and atmosphere are great, nice beer selection and outdoor patio seating. Definitely worth a look if you don't mind a bit of a further drive.

I'll have to try that myself.

You got sliders in Plainville as well...FWIW they got a thumbs up - #5 in the nation, from ESPN.
