Hi All,

We just moved to CT and had an offer accepted on a house in Fairfield (our first purchase). After reading some threads on here and elsewhere I am now worried it might be too close to less desirable areas. The house we bought is on a quiet side street off Strafield Rd at the north end of Brooklawn Country Club. The immediate neighborhood itself looks very nice but I just noticed it is close to a Bridgeport zip code area so I am having second thoughts.

Is this a decent area? Is it far enough away from the bad areas of Bridgeport?

Thanks in advance for any info.

as long as you stay away from the gangs walking the streets with AK-47s right at the border that shoot to kill, I think you will be ok.

sometimes they do random blasts of the country club neighborhood, so you should make sure you dont sleep next to a window

Otherwise, I wouldnt worry about it.

in case you cannot tell, this post is sarcasm.

Oh don't worry you'll be fine. Bridgeport is not some walled city like escape from NY where the heathen toss molotov cocktail's over the border. You'll probably have a hard time figuring out where Fairfield ends and where Bridgeport starts.

The parts of Bridgeport that border Fairfield and Trumbull are actually pretty decent looking. The big difference when you immediately cross the border is schools.

Very much like my hometown of Mt. Vernon, NY in southern Westchester County. It borders both the Bronx and Bronxville, one of the richest (and snobbiest) suburbs in the entire US. The part that borders Bronxville barely looks any different, but people avoid it because of the school district. And the people who live in Bronxville don't worry if their house is one block from the "border". Good luck!

Thanks folks. When we first looked in that area I drove around and some of the houses in that area (including Brooklawn) are some of the nicest I have seen in the Fairfield area. Then I started looking at internet opinions and started to worry.

No worries - I keep my (CT compliant) AR15 by my bed at night for just this situation

One thing to remember is "Internet opinions" are typically not well thought out, gut reactions with a very harsh twist of the words. People are much quicker to pass judgements or make snap decisions when hiding behind a keyboard.

I live not far from there (off Fairfield Woods), and the sound of mortars falling at night is as soothing as the crickets. The area is just fine - you'll be very happy in the area.

Just don't expect parking at the train station for 6 years or so.

Ha! I second this post- spot on as usual, JViello.

Contrary to what you may read on internet forums, there are nice neighborhoods in Bridgeport. It isn't all ghetto and gangs. Enjoy Fairfield and your new home, it is a great town.
