The two most common proposals in the past either extended I-287 in Rye or I-91 in New Haven (another way would be to extend Rt. 8 in Bridgeport or Rt. 7 in Norwalk over the Sound, but I'm not sure I've ever heard of either being proposed). NIMBYism and possible environmental issues have killed it in the past and probably will going forward.

New York needs to rebuild the decaying Tappan Zee Bridge first, hopefully with a rail line connecting Rockland and Westchester. Connecticut is flat broke and badly needs to build new or widen some existing roads just to keep up with current traffic, let alone adding even more New Yorkers to the roads. In return, Long Islanders do not want more traffic going to the beaches or airports.

You can says it is NIMBYism but the truth is the whole area is overbuilt (especially LI) and people are fed up with crowds and traffic. And the Sound is already polluted and a bridge would not help that. To me, the people who would most gain would be the land developers who would love to do to the East End and Quiet Corner what they did to the more westerly areas of Long Island and Connecticut.

Tolls could possibly pay for this kind of link over a very long period of time, if the project is ever attempted. But the collateral damage to two crowded areas would be way more than just traffic and simply unnecessary.

whatever we moved here from NY several years ago...can you stand us?

Yeah a bridge has been brought up several times, it is feasible but not going to happen I bet.

Theres only 1 Rail link into CT proposed across the sound and that would be a new NEC route from Central CT through LI to NYC.

Agreed. My family is from NY to a large extent and I agree. People shouldn't take it personal, but the fact is CT has changed & will continue to because of its proximity to NYS. To some of us its not change for the better.
