I am moving my family to the Hartford area from Texas and my kids are very active in the school marching band. I would REALLY appreciate if anyone has feedback on which town (Simsbury, Avon, Glastonbury) or other in that area has a strong high school marching band program? Thank you so much! Looking forward to life in CT!
I went to HS in Farmington (about 10 years ago) and we had a large band. Marching band wasn't separate from concert band, we just practiced moving around after school a few times, and practiced the music during class. We played at home football games, and at both Memorial Day parades in town.
Berlin's the only school in the area that I remember having a band that actually traveled to away games and competed, though I was told by onlookers that we blew them out of the water (even though we didn't travel). Simsbury and Avon definitely didn't, though they might have bands that play at home games. Not sure about Glastonbury. The easiest thing might be to get the phone numbers of the music teachers.
Glastonbury high is a good sized school wiht about 2,000 students and I know they have a band but do not know if they compete or not. I agree with tchemgrrl o contact the music teacher for information. You might also check for information on the schools web site. By the way, all three towns have excellent school systems, so you can't go wrong with any one of them. Jay
It's a large school with a very competitive sports program in CT Class LL (largest schools), and is located in a nice community.
