Get out of class at Western at 2:15, trying to make it to a basketball game in Providence at 5:30. The school is in the northern part of Providence so I could either take 95 into downtown and work my way from there or cut across 44/6 (I think the school is right off of route 44 if I remember from last year and I don't think 44 and 6 are too far from each other). I plugged the route into googe and gave these 3 routes, and also have these 3 routes of my own:
1) 84 to 691 to 91 to route 3 to route 2 to 395 than finally to 6 to Providence
2) 84 to 691 to 66 to route 9 to 95 into Providence
3) 84 to 691 to 91 to 84 to 384 to 6 into Providence
than for my 3:
4) combines part of routes 1 and 2 from above: 84 to 691 to 66 to route 2 to 395 than finally to route 6
5) Driving to Trumbull, and taking the route I'd normally take from hy house
6) 84 to 34 to 95

I've only taken route 6 east of Willimantic 1 or 2 times and have never gone past 395, are there many lights on that stretch of road, or is that a stretch I could go 40+ for a 5 or 10 mile stretch. I'm doing this on Tuesday afternoon, so traffic won't be a problem until Providence, that's why I'd like to sneak in on route 6 or 44 if I could, so I can avoid downtown which'll probably be a nightmare by the time I get there (probably about 5). Any insight from anybody that's done this drive or close to it can offer insight. Also, gonna see if I can get out at 2, because 3 hours seems like it's pushing it.

I suggest you invest in a navigation unit that has live traffic, or look at Google Maps live traffic before you leave. I doubt there will be any significant traffic anywhere in CT at that time.

Mapquest recommends going 84 to 691 to 66 to 9 to I-95 to Providence. Seems reasonable. They say this will take 2 hours 42 minutes. Jay

this is horrendous as one might get caught in back of school buses( it could be school spring vacation next week!) and Middletown local traffic. Leaving Danbury to get to Bryant(you never named the school), north of Providence. I would take 84 thru Hartford and either 384 to Route 6, to 295 north, getting off at the Bryant exit. Or 84 thru Hartford to 79 which will take you to 44, 101, to Route 6 and 295. You do not have to go thru Providence which has traffic after 3 pm. If you choose the Southern 95 route either choose 395 to route 6(which has few traffic light for the first 10 miles with a speed limit of 45-50). or continue on 95 thru New London to 295. But this latter way is a good 10 miles longer than going 395. I live in NW Rhode Island and New Haven is 90 minutes away using 6, 395, 95. But I am still 15-20 minutes away from Bryant. Little warnings. Electric Boat in Groton has staggered shifts at 4, 4:30 and 5, shouldn't be too bad. If Bryant is not the school please name it so I can help you better. Providence is much too small to really differentiate between central, north, etc. and if you ask for directions to north Providence, well safe to say you will be put in a whole different direction for there is a North Providence, a city unto itself!

We have had too many GPS units fail on us or give us poor directions. Recently used the GPS to go somewhere and it took us to the back side of the place which was no where near where we needed to be. We could see the building we just could not get to it through a large fence. we had to wind our way through a series of other roads to get to where we needed to be. I have found that Mapquest gives decent directions and usually the shortest route. Jay

OK, I did some research and saw Western CT. playing at RIC on Tuesday, both women and men's games 5:30 and 7:30 respectively. Actually more difficult to get to because of city driving. Both choices of getting there, either
I-95 or I-84 to 6, are still viable, but you need to get onto I-295. DO NOT try to go thru the city on I-95 between 4-5 pm! OK, I-295 North to the Route 44 East exit, exit before going under Route 44. 44 is also also Putnam Pike and will change to Smith Street after Centerdale. Continue East on 44 thru Centerdale;you will come to a round-about after Centerdale, take the second right-Smith Street. Continue on Smith Street to the next traffic light, about 3/4 mile. After that light bear right, do not go to the next traffic light. You are now on Fruit Hill Ave and this will take you to the college about 1 mile down on the left. Yes, there are other ways to get there that might seem more direct, but with that are more traffic lights and very slow travel. Avoid any directions that might lead you to Killingly Street. It might seem very close and shorter off the highway to RIC, but it is very slow with a number of traffic lights.

Thanks Mr 2448. If I want to get to the school at 5:15 (even though the game starts at 5:30 but to find parking and go in, etc), what time do you think I should leave Danbury??
