Nope, just the shoulders. They may have done some patch work, hopefully in anticipation of paving over.

I don't know anything about this whistling pavement, but it sounds annoying to me.

One reason you see asphalt in the northern states is black asphalt retains heat and it helps melt the ice + snow faster.

Route 25 in Trumbull and Monroe for several miles are concrete, but the state has been repaving various sections of it for months now. Now there will probably be even more accidents along there....

They've patched and milled the top surface of concrete portions of 84 and 91 around hartford and left light "grooves" I guess it kind of whistles, but not really. It's actually pretty quiet and smooth. Seemed like an efficient way to "resurface" without going crazy. They just kind of sanded it smooth.

And they FINALLY put huge double lines between the regular and HOV lanes. Now idiots have NO excuse for cutting across the divider and kicking up all sorts of crap.

Not a single inch of pavement on I-84 or I-91 for the entire length in CT makes the whistling noise I describe of in my original post. None of the highways in CT do, actually. But it's very common in NY, parts of NJ and most southern states. It's a very distinctive noise, but I like it. The faster you drive on it, the louder and higher pitched it gets. Drive on any of the four spots in CT that have it and you'll know what I mean. I listed them in my original post.

I think this is what's on the NYS Thruway, I think it's between Rochester and Syracuse, somewhere around there. If anyone else has driven this way you probably remember it. It's a more whiter pavement in color and there's a different sound when driving on it. I feel it slows you down though. I fly the best on fresh asphalt.

I-95 in Westchester County has miles and miles of it. I guess it could be described as more of a screeching sound rather than whistling.

Not in New England. Cocrete is a poor paving material here for many reasons. Its very hard & inflexible but our roads must tolerate movement because of winter freeze thaw cycles which asphalt tolerates much better.

I believe the highway part of Route 25 is concrete. They seem to be sanding it down and resurfacing it though. Looks like a huge project.
