That's quite the range - Z to R8! But they are both great cars in their own right whether you have $16,000 or $160,000 to spend.

The M3's appeal is its livability/practicality+performance.

From a non enthusiasts POV, I can understand. "It's just another BMW". For the rest of us, we get it, and understand the vehicle dynamics that they infuse. It might be a good thing if the general public walks away from BMW. I tire of seeing stepford wives driving automatic BMW's within the first 2% of their capability every day. Merc has something for them...perhaps a G or E class.

It's true. The worst thing BMW did was introduce their stupid "active steering" option. This was done to placate women that thought that the steering was too heavy in BMW's. That's the point! They had little assist because that's how you get great feedback and steering feel.

My friend got his 335i used and that option was ticked. He loves the car as it's the only car of its type he's ever had. The steering feel is extremely light and over-assisted. I didn't have the heart to tell him he was missing one of the cornerstones of a BMW.

Was wondering why they were doing a photoshoot at the track last tuesday with a seemingly stock, (besides the retina harming orange) car of which so many frequent the track every day.. including the tracks own sponsored vehicles, M3 Comps etc...

I never understood the appeal of this either. My wife's 328 has the regular steering and it is just one of the most fun cars to drive in the twisties. Lighter steering would ruin it.

Amen! One of the "funnest" cars I had was an E30 I picked up at auction that was super clean. After going through the car and updating all the bushings, struts etc and tossing some modern rubber on it, it was a joy to drive.

Anyone who wants to experience what you described above simply needs to slide into a Lotus Elise. Talk about road feel and feedback. lol

Other than the impending fear of death on public roads, I do miss mine.
