We are also considering Capital View, Loomis Dr. Apartments, Park Place Towers, Trumbull on the Park, Union Place, 711 Farmington Ave, and 26 Russ St. We are limited to these places because we have 2 small dogs and these apartments are pet friendly. Since we are not from there or familiar with the area at all, I would like advice from people that are. Are these areas considered safe and a good place to live, or are any of these apartments in areas that we should avoid? We are a young couple in our 20s, and would love to be located near lots of entertainment, shopping, bars, and restaurants. We are also interested in West Hartford and the West End of Hartford as well, but before we continue apartment hunting online, I would like to have a general idea of the areas to avoid so I can take any undesirable apartments off of my list during my search. We will be there in a week to see the area and check out these places, but would prefer to have an idea of it first so we can schedule viewings that are not a waste of time. Thanks and I look forward to hearing everyone's input!
Stay away from anything in the North End of Hartford..very rough area. The area around the Hospital is also not so great. Good choice to perhaps rent in West Hartford but I am not all that familiar with that area. Good idea might be to find a Real Estate Agent who can help you find a nice place. Good luck !

First, I'd like to see some stats that back up your claims.

west end of hartford is really cool. if you can afford west hartford, start in the downtown of w. h. and work your way out, you'll see where you want to be or not. west end is really cool, but can be sketchy, but it has a cool vibe. but I would say start with w. hartford, downtown area, and in between there and bloomfield, you have a lot to choose from, the closer to w.h. side of hartford, and the closer side going towards bloomfield. good luck

Default Downtown is safe!

Hi there - read your post and thought to reply. We are currently downtown residents, previous W. Hartford residents. Love it Downtown and have not had any issues in the 3 (going on 4 years) we've lived here. Lots of biz district folks about (in the blue jackets) that offer security as well as Hartford's finest. Great things in walking distance (or the complimentary star shuttle)... restaurants, library, park, art museum, science museum, etc. We have a great mayor who is really working to get the city revived. New movie theater going in @ front street and talks of a market soon as well. We actively chose to leave W. Hartford to come downtown. It's nice to walk down your street, in your lobby or in the elevator and see your neighbors.

I live in 210 Farmington. The neighborhood is OK and walking downtown is a breeze. The apartments are super nice and much more luxurious than anything else at that price. If you choose to live there then put me as a reference and we can split the $500 bonus!
