I agree that cuts need to be made, but not in the areas you suggest. Your solutions are downright scary.
I have never got any ticket from a state trooper. I also have never complained about the time it took for someone to assist me because I have never been in that situation.

I think the towns pay for about 70% of the troopers salary at least according to Wikipedia.

The figure comes from the number of positions needed to fill. There are about 50,000 teachers so there is a demand for 50K positions. The demand is related to the number of positions you need to fill. There are much more teaching positions than positions for state troopers.

The number of state police is way more than it should be. All they do is sit on highway medians, talk to each other, and give the occasional ticket. Local police officers do all the real police work.

Yes, that's all they do.

The ignorance displayed on this board is really nothing short of laughable.

JayCT- I think Hartford_Renter may be thinking of resident state troopers when he says the town pays 70% of the trooper's cost.

Lots of smaller towns have resident state troopers rather than their own police forces. If a town chooses to have one or more resident state troopers, then the town does pay 70% of the trooper's cost.

See link and in particular, scroll down to the section on resident troopers

As far as being held over 2 max, it depends on the department. If someone was sick the guy on duty would either work the whole shift or work 4 over and the next guy would come in 4 hours earlier. It depends on the agency and the manpower available at the time.

Troopers work accidents and are human ticket writing machines.

It says towns cover 70% but this is for resident troopers. I'm not sure how much of the total they make up.

Having a police offcer work 12 or even 16 hours is pretty rare in most departments (in CT) due to town liability from fatigue, etc. The most I've seen one work on a RARE occasion is 13 hours, and that was during a hurricane. Usually when an officer books off, one guy stays over 2 hours, the "early car" from the mid shift comes in 2 hours early, and another officer comes in 1 hour early. But you're right that it depends on department and manpower.

I'm sorry but you really need to read into statistics before you start spouting incorrect information. Aside from the strange opinions you have, nearly everything you have stated is false. The trooper's salary does NOT come from the towns, it comes from the state. What you are referring to is a resident trooper, and currently there are only 32 of them in Connecticut. If you do not know what the difference between a resident trooper and a state trooper is, then stop posting in this thread. You're only making yourself look more and more ignorant.
