If it was like 1927 and the refrigerator was being introduced, folks on this board would complain that its going to put the ice delivery man out of business.

This is the basis of the argument for UBI.

Not necessarily. These jobs could have been added in other states rather than here.

The modern logistics warehouse market in greater Hartford has been red hot. Companies have been building or leasing warehouse and distribution space in the area at record pace. It’s because the greater Hartford location has what many of these companies are looking for to distribute their products. That includes a major airport, railroad lines, and major highways that can get products easily to Boston, the rest of New England, New York City, upstate New York and even New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In addition, greater Hartford has a lot of flat easily developable land suitable for large scale single story warehousing. You can’t say that about many other places in the northeast. Jay

True, Up in Windsor there's many a distribution center.
To the others re my complaining....haha just pointing out facts.
Every package of clothing delivered to your door spells the end of retail. Yes it's the cycle of life

correct. Online cannibalizes in person retail. Since I abhor malls, i do not mind that it does. It is up to the mall to add enough value to the experience to win online shoppers back, based on their merits. I like the Posts' ideas, particularly live music.

In my Tennessee suburb, we had an upscale small mall which was not doing well as rents were ultra high, and store mix was not optimal, which sharply increased traffic and its bottom line, via live free concerts, some activities for kids including a splash playground sort of area, and other attention seeking things to drive families with kids there. (Particularly from an upscale region nearby). In short, they thought outside the box, and pre covid, for several years, improved their bottom line. I think the Connecticut Post is also, finally, thinking outside the box.

Inside the box for big malls is simply a slower path to die.

Philip Morris International moving corporate HQ to Stamford along with 200 jobs, officials say

STAMFORD — The world’s largest tobacco company Philip Morris International will move its corporate headquarters from New York to Connecticut, bringing about 200 jobs with it, according to an announcement from the company Tuesday.

Connecticut offers a valuable mix of technological know-how, future-forward thinking, and an open-minded approach to problem-solving. We consider it an ideal location for our new U.S. head office, where we will be working to more quickly achieve our vision of a smoke-free future,” Philip Morris International CEO Jacek Olczak said in a press release.

This is huge news! Phillip Morris International is #101 on the Fortune 500! This further adds to the narrative of the "Connecticut comeback!"

Great news. Just shows that despite all the claims otherwise, Connecticut is still a desirable place for companies to locate. I believe Phillip Morris’s current headquarters in on 42nd Street directly across from Grand Central. I assume a lot of their employees commute in from Connecticut already so it’s logical they move here. The announcement does not give where they are moving but since Governor Lamont has scheduled a news conference in Stamford, I’m guessing that’s where they will move. Great news. Jay

Recreational marijuana is now officially legal in CT (as of July 1). @GovNedLamont just signed the cannabis bill.
