Bella's, Lena's, The Pantry in New Haven and The Corner in Milford. They at least serve brunch all weekend

If you want a good brunch on Sunday (not sure of any other day), look at Dakota in Rocky Hill. They have famous brunch and it really good with a very good variety from fish to pancakes. Plus the inside is awesome. Also for a sports bar/chill spot is Cromwell is Chicago Sams.

Also, I like the "woods" and I am not a fan of fist-bumping places. Litchfield Hills has so many little spots. One of my favorites spots is The Wandering Moose. Great food if you feel like making the trek. Plus you can see some of the most beautiful parts of CT.

Did the Dakota (not a real fan of buffet style brunches) but a nice spot none-the-less.
The Max fish Sunday brunch is real sweet - the potato hash is super amazing, though I wish it was bottomless mimosa's instead of bloody mary's.

Thanks for posting Mr_250!!

I googled those the moment I landed here, the 45 min drive turned me off of making the venture. And yes they do serve brunch all weekend which was tempting each Saturday morning

Thanks for the suggestions.

Unfortunately, everything your impressions of downtown Hartford and West Hartford center are correct.

Hartford and its suburbs is a great place to be if you are married with kids, but if you are young(ish) and single (as I assume you are) then you really are out of luck. If you continue to compare Hartford to DC, you will be forever disappointed.

IMO Bella's and Corner are worth at least one visit.

Roia in New Haven sounds like it has an interesting Sunday brunch with jazz. Heirloom touts their brunch too.

Not as familiar with Hartford area options.

Hartford has always been a working city, meaning that people work hard Monday through Friday, 8 hours+ a day. I have read it has one of the earliest starting times for workers in the country. You rarely find anyone starting work at 9:00 or later. A lot start at 7:00 AM. It is kind of hard to sustain a nightlife like cities where workers do not have to be in the office early. Jay

Really? I guess I missed all the exciting stuff that the following capital cities offer:

Montgomery, AL
Juneau, AK
Little Rock, AR
Sacramento, CA
Dover, DE
Tallahassee, FL
Boise, ID
Springfield, IL
Des Moines, IA
Topeka, KS
Frankfort, KY
Augusta, ME
Annapolis, MD
Lansing MI
Jackson, MS
Jefferson City MO
Helena, MT
Lincoln, NE
Carson City, NV
Concord, NH
Trenton, NJ
Albany, NY
Bismarck, ND
Columbus, OH
Oklahoma City, OK
Salem, OR
Harrisburg, PA
Columbia, SC
Pierre, SD
Montpelier, VT
Olympia, WA
Charleston, WV
Madison, WI
Cheyenne, WY

The fact is the vast majority of state capitals are not big hoping cities. Most are smaller and a lot more boring than Hartford. Again it is all a matter of expectation. Expecting Hartford to have as much to offer as Boston or Washington DC is just absurd. Jay

Its just weird to see pool tables in a chill bar - gives it a very strange vibe. If I want to play snooker/pool I go to a pool hall.

Bocca Rosa (great wine bar by the way) - I ate there a few nights in a row (great shrimp pasta) - but all i heard were crickets. I was 1 of 4 people in joint and it was a thursday night and they said a DJ was supposed to roll through and get it poppin. I left at 8 pm. It was still dead.

Thanks for posting though!
Lol, you're right, Bocca Rossa is fairly quiet early in the evening. We would walk over after work, have a few drinks, then head somewhere else.

Black Bear Saloon?
Pig's Eye Pub? (Right next to Black Eyed Sally's)

I think Hartford still has more to do nightlife wise than Bridgeport...

Black Rock, on the other hand, has a better nightlife scene than downtown Hartford IMO.
