Is anybody else a member of LA Fitness in Trumbull? I just signed up today. I've been a Fitness 4000 member for 6 years but the club is closing soon since the property was sold to Sacred Heart University.

Any thoughts about LA Fitness? I liked the facility and what really sold me is the fact that they have a pool. Fitness 4000 also has a pool and I like to use it sometimes. My only concern is potential wait times for machines at peak hours but that was certainly not an issue today.

They're popping up everywhere. Soon to be in Milford, Orange, AND Stratford. A lot of new gyms in the area. Anytime is expanding as well. Gotta wonder if there's a gym bubble.

I don't think there's a bubble. There are actually pretty scant gym options in Fairfield. Fitness Edge is overcrowded, Planet Fitness is low end for the area and Fitness 4000 on the town line is closing. That's not a lot of options for an affluent town this size. I love the fact that LA Fitness has a pool, hot tub and sauna. None of the other gyms except the soon to close Fitness 4000 have that.

I am surprised you are willing to travel so far for a fitness center especially since the new LA Fitness is practically in Monroe. Unfortunately, Fairfield itself has very little land available for this type of development. I am surprised that they were able to build a Whole Foods in town. I seriously think that the town should look into more redevelopment options. I think Kings highway East would be a good area to look into redeveloping. Fairfield is one of the hardest towns for developers to work in. The Conservation Commission and their staff are the worst. Their goal is to turn Fairfield back to the rural town it was over 100 years ago. They take forever to make what should be simple decisions. Fairfield Metro Center is a prime example of this. If the Conservation Commission staff did their job properly, you would see several buildings (including a fitness center and hotel) on the site today. Their delays caused the developer to lose their financing which stalled the project over what were without question very minor issues. If more local residents demanded that more be done, maybe Fairfield would have more to it than it has today. Jay

No it's not. The la fitness is at the Trumbull mall. The edge fitness is next to Monroe.

Thanks for the correction. You are right, the mall is not that far. Jay

I wish this trend would come to Middletown / Durham. The options are either expensive for what you get or cheap and grungy, with nothing in between.

I can't imagine having to deal with mall traffic to accomplish a simple daily task such as going to the gym.

That said...LA Fitness is nice, if you're really going to take advantage of the amenities. The pool and sauna are a huge plus, as are the raquetball courts.

However, for basic cardio/weights, I've found that the $10 per month gyms, such as Planet Fitness, are a good deal if you can find one that doesn't get ridiculously crowded during peak hours and has a well-maintained locker room.

That's the gayest gym I've ever seen. They limit what type of exercises you can do. You can't do a deadlift. There' a lunkhead alarm that goes off. You're "intimidating" others. I couldn't make this stuff up. Who comes up with crap? and ughh that purple coloring. Who the hell designed that? It's disgusting. Give me L.A. Fitness anyday over that. They also have heavy bags and who doesn't love a jacuzzi after working out?

Granted that guy is a complete lunatic, but he is totally right that he should be able to work out and do the exercises he wants.
