For a home this new, similar in size and this close to the water in Fairfield, you'd be paying a lot more:
78 Cambridge St, Fairfield, CT 06824 is For Sale - Zillow

That house is indeed lovely but as someone who had to cope with the after affects of Sandy, I will be looking for a little more cushion between me and the ocean.

Much of Connecticut's coast is hilly, so you can't look at it like that. I'm .5 miles from the water and had zero damage from both storms. I'm 60' above sea level.

Towns like Guilford, Milford, and Branford have a varied topography. You'll find Fairfield is flatter by the water, so even several blocks inland can flood.

It's really all about elevation.

On a very generalized scale -- CT seems more cultured than LI, while LI seems obsessed with bling (keeping up with the Joneses.) I have a friend of mine who moved to FFC from NYC, and he also felt that CT is not like LI or NJ for bling.

Does this city girl have the stomach for private septic system, contaminated well water (a good chance it is anyway) and oil heat. IDK I never had to manage these factors before.

What towns are more apt to have public sewer & water systems? Even if more pricey

More dense towns will have city water typically.

You can always view the Patch articles. Other than that, I'm not sure what kind of reading material you're looking for.

If I were you, I'd spend some time in each town to get that feel.

If thats the way you think of it and you really think city water is "safer" than well, its prob best for you to stay in NY.
