I agree with what others are saying, but I'll add a possible idea:

When you sit down to do the paperwork at the new place, let them know at that point that your previous employer offered to pay you more just to keep you there - and ask if the new boss would consider adding a couple thousand to whatever he offered to pay you before you actually gave notice at your old place.

At the worst, he'll say no, you'll say that's okay I'm glad to be here and where do I sign. At the best, he'll say sure, no problem.

She hates the train, the crowds and the city. Once this was happened, she was along for the ride and was never going to keep it permanent. So that's why she tells me not to worry, it's time for a change.

It's worth a try. I do have an incentive program so if I can drum up some extra business through my contacts, I would be up near the salary I am at now. I'm actually going in tomorrow to learn a few things before I actually start so I know what to expect. I asked if them if that was cool and they thought it was a great idea. Acura and BMW are 2 different worlds.

If I was to put the employer shoes - I would think he would be nickeling and diming me. If you're great, show it to me, and I'll make it up in the raise.

Since OP sounds like a great employee, he might rather be more interested in raises and promotion culture of the new place.
