Fairfield traffic on the Merritt SB starts at 6:00 am and gets heavy from 6:15 on. Trust me.....I know. :{

I agree. My husband and I commuted from Trumbull to Stamford for about 7 years. We drove down together 2-3 days a week. If I was not in the car at 6:15 my husband would leave without me because he hates traffic even more than me.

Actually, now that you mention it I did get stuck in pretty horrible traffic leaving at 6:30. Blamed it on the rain.

Leaving at 6:15 was fairly foolproof for me though.

I travel the Merritt every single day for work. I go 7 to the Merritt and I have only hit traffic once, as I left later. I leave anytime between 545-6:45am. The day I hit traffic, I left at 7:30...and it took me an hour to get to the NY state line, vs the normal 15-20 minutes it takes me otherwise.

So...I'd say as long as you leave 6:45 or earlier, you should be okay. Also, I commute all the way down to the Saw Mill...and that's the first place I generally hit traffic. 287 and 87 are always fine.

In the afternoons, I leave anytime between 3:30-6:00PM...and traffic generally starts right around Stamford. However, unless there is an accident, it moves, though slowly (30mph)...on average, I'm home within 50-55 minutes.

With the areas you are looking to move, I would think you would hit similar conditions. Traffic above Stamford/Norwalk, however, is ridiculous.

You go from New Haven to the Saw Mill in an hour during rush hour traffic, leaving at 6:45 in New Haven to the NY border?

Do you have a flying carpet?

I moved to Norwalk last month. I haven't updated my profile on here--thanks for reminding me!

Don't forget the accidents. I can't tell you how many times I come across one. It's insane if I really think about it.

Here's one yesterday morning around 8:30am. Looks like someone in the ditch on the southbound side and maybe a witness off to the right?

Traffic went on for miles.

It definitely is! I get off pretty much where traffic starts in the afternoon and ends in the morning. It's perfect for me. I hit a bit more traffic than usual in Stamford yesterday...but was still home in less than an hour!
