I am going to be in Groton in a few days and would like to take a commuter train into NYC, could anyone tell me if this is possible, if so how and where would I need to go?

AmTrak to NYC ( Penn Station). Pick up train in Mystic or New London ( depending upon schedule)

Or AmTrak to New Haven and there, switch to Metro North which goes to Grand Central

or Shoreline East from New London ( very, very few trains from New London) to New Haven, there switch to Metro North to Grand Central.

Old Saybrook would give you more train options than New London and is only 10 minutes further.
