The cross has been lighted every evening for the past couple of years. It changes color, depdning on the season, and it can be green, purple, or white.

turns out the park & ride off exit 23 does give a great view but unfortunately was still too far away for even my 18-250 lens. got some good unobstructed shots but it was so far away, all the pics came out blurry even using a tripod. disappointed. i'm guessing the other vantage points mentioned here will result in the same problem. guess i need a 70-300 or more.
at this point getting on the property would be the best option so i'm gonna contact the current owners via the web site and ask permission (with an offer to make a small donation).

You can go on their FB page and ask or call the mayor's office about who to contact (even though he owns it, it's supposed to be a side thing). You could get a decent view from South Main St. although will see then neighborhood in those pics. Not sure if that's what you're looking for. There are so many good views from several parts of the city.

took this tonight. the lighting was enhanced but the rest was just normally post-processed. and it was actually lighter out than it looks here but i like the night effect better.

i tried the park and ride on Hamilton again (southern end) but this time with more correct exposure settings. i used too small an aperture opening (high number) for the first shots which caused the blur. this time i opened up the aperture a bit (smaller number) and got better results. the only problem i had was focusing - it was dusk and therefore getting dark so the camera had a hard time focusing. this was actually the only shot i got.
oh and the lighting was added by me - there was no street lamp or anything around to cause the glow.

Looks great. Have you looked from the bottom of East Liberty St? If you go up the hill, you're heading directly toward the cross. It's not the best neighborhood, but you'd likely be okay as long as it's not too late. Brass City Blue & While would know better than me.
